Views needed on future development of Market Drayton

Residents in Market Drayton will be asked to give their views on proposals that will shape future development in the town.

A questionnaire will be put through every door in November which will help form the neighbourhood plan.

When approved, the plan will be a legal document to be considered when planning decisions are made.

It follows a consultation day, which was held recently in the Festival Drayton Centre and in Cheshire Street, where people were asked to submit comments about what they would like to see happen in the town.

Councillor Roger Hughes, who represents Market Drayton West on Shropshire Council, said: "The event was quite successful and we had a lot of comments.

"We need to go through the comments which will help us formulate a questionnaire we will be sending out in November.

"We want the plan to come from residents."

Julie Jones, clerk to Market Drayton Town Council, said policing, off-street parking and jobs were among the issues raised.

Market Drayton Town Council has revealed plans to work with nearby villages in a bid to secure future development.

Councillors say they want to see parts of the parishes of Moreton Say, Adderley and Norton-in-Hales designated in the neighbourhood plan for the town. And thanks to agreement from the parish councils, the plans could secure "critical" land for employment, sports and leisure facilities.
