Woman worker raped at Shrewsbury care home, court told
A young female care assistant was raped and sexually abused by a colleague as they worked together at a Shrewsbury nursing home, a court has been told.
The woman was assaulted and forced to commit sex acts by 35-year-old Marius Cadar while they looking after a dementia patient, the court heard.
A jury at Stafford Crown Court heard yesterday that Cadar had left the young woman "trembling and crying" after the incidents in October last year.
Cadar, a Romanian national, denies an allegation of rape and three charges of sexual assault.
The defendant, of Judith Butts Gardens, Monkmoor, Shrewsbury, was said to speak some English but was assisted at court by an interpreter.
The court heard that Cadar and the alleged victim, who is in her 20s and cannot be named for legal reasons, often worked together as a team at the nursing home that cares for the elderly, many of whom suffer from dementia.
Miss Samantha Forsyth, prosecuting, said that on October 29, Cadar was said to have made some "inappropriate" sexual comments to the victim and tapped her bottom.
"She shrugged it off as flirting or banter. But the next day the defendant's behaviour escalated," she alleged.
Miss Forsyth said that initially Cadar had tried to kiss the young woman and she had made it clear she was not interested. However, the defendant thentried to put his hand down her trousers but she managed to carry on with her work.
When they moved to another room to deal with a male patient the defendant had again put his hand inside her trousers, she said.
Miss Forsyth said that the woman left to get some fresh bed linen but on her return she was raped and forced her to commit a sex act on the defendant.
The young woman ran crying to the manager's office to report what had happened and was crying and shaking. Her hands were trembling and she was having difficulty talking.
Miss Forsyth said that Cadar was arrested and interviewed and made no comment to police questions.
"He provided a prepared statement in which he stated that nothing at all had happened and denied the allegations," said Miss Forsyth.
"However, the next day he provided a second written statement in which he said there had been sexual contact, but suggested that he was the victim and that his colleague had forced herself on him," she added.
The trial continues.
