A shuttle bus which helps people get to remote parts of south Shropshire has been axed due to funding cuts.

The Shropshire Hills Shuttle, which ran from Craven Arms to Clun and Bishop's Castle, will not be available this year after the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership lost 20 per cent of its funding from the government.

Routes across the Longmynd and Stiperstones will run, with the new season due to start on April 16.

Partnership officials have issued a "use it or lose it" warning in a bid to generate more interest in the service.

Clare Fildes, development officer at Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership, said: "It's a combination of funding cuts from Defra, which provides 75 per cent of core funding, and Shropshire Council not able to support us as much as they would hope.

"Because of potential transport issues along the Burway and on the Long Mynd we have decided to prioritise our Longmynd and Stiperstones shuttles, which are the best used services."
