Four people have been arrested in north Shropshire as part of a police crackdown on drug dealers.

Three men and a woman are today in custody at Shrewsbury police station after being arrested in Whitchurch yesterday on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply.

They were arrested after officers stopped their car and found substances believed to be cocaine and cannabis. The arrests were part of Operation Protect, which has seen more than 20 people arrested in Shropshire for drug offences.

Detective Inspector Gavin Kinrade, from Shrewsbury police, said: "There will be no let-up in our work throughout Shropshire against those involved in dealing and supplying drugs. This week alone has seen the arrest of eight people for suspected drugs offences in the county.

"We are receiving tremendous support fr- om the public and can assure people we are making significant inroads against those involved in the drugs trade." Information can be passed to police on 0300 3333000.
