Shropshire Star

Not the UKIP John Galloway

I wonder if I may be allowed, through your columns, to clarify a case of possible mistaken identity, and I hope people will not consider me presumptuous.

I wonder if I may be allowed, through your columns, to clarify a case of possible mistaken identity, and I hope people will not consider me presumptuous.

I was born in Wellington and have lived here all my life. I attended Wellington Grammar School, and throughout my working life have been employed with estate agency firms in Wellington and Shrewsbury and currently in Ironbridge, and have had the pleasure of dealing with a large number of people during my professional career. I have also been connected with a number of local organisations for many years.

My father Sydney and grandfather, Francis (Frank) also lived in Wellington throughout their lives and both held office positions at Grooms Timber Merchants in Wellington, whom your older readers will probably recall.

Over the past few months, letters to the Editor has carried a number of letters from a Mr John Galloway, who signs his letters - UKIP; Chairman UKIP; Chairman UKIP North Shropshire and Chairman UKIP Shrewsbury; but does not indicate the area in which he resides.

I would wish it to be known to the people who know me and can hopefully identify me from the above information, and who have approached me and my family on the subject, that I am not the John Galloway who has been writing these letters and I am not a member of UKIP. I hope this will reassure those people who have raised the subject with me and avoid any possible future misunderstanding.
