Aston Villa seal loan swoop for defender
The right-back is their sixth signing of the summer and third of this week.
Villa have completed the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka on a season-long loan from West Ham.
The 28-year-old, the club’s sixth signing of the transfer window, has joined in a deal which includes a conditional obligation to buy.
Boss Unai Emery had been keen to bolster his squad’s strength in depth at right-back and Wan-Bissaka should provide experienced cover and competition for Matty Cash.
The DR Congo international will go straight into the squad for Sunday’s Premier League opener at Brighton.
A product of Crystal Palace’s academy, Wan-Bissaka joined Manchester United for £50million in 2019, going on to make 130 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils before moving to the Hammers two years ago.
Villa’s business for the window is some way from finished with the club sourcing a replacement for Ezri Konsa, who has joined Arsenal in a deal worth an initial £51m.
An £18m bid for Southampton centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been rejected.
Villa will head to Brighton without two of their summer recruits, midfielders Joao Gomes and Johan Manzambi, due to injury.
Teenage striker Brian Madjo has also been sidelined for the opening weeks of the campaign.
