Oswestry illuminated tractor run to bring festive sparkle to Shropshire roads
The 38-mile convoy will set off from Oswestry Livestock Market on December 12, raising money for Lingen Davies Cancer Support
Around 100 illuminated tractors will take to the roads around Oswestry for an annual festive charity run in aid of a cancer support charity.
The Oswestry Illuminated Tractor Run will take place on Saturday, December 12, with farmers decorating their vehicles with lights before setting off on a 38-mile route through the town and surrounding villages.
The tractors will gather at Oswestry Livestock Market, on Shrewsbury Road, from 3.30pm, where members of the public will be able to meet farmers and see the decorated vehicles.
Hot drinks and food will be available, while marshals and volunteer collectors will be raising money for Lingen Davies Cancer Support, based in Shrewsbury.
Spokesman Mike Lade said: "People are very welcome to come and meet the tractors and our hard-working farmers and admire the lengths they have gone to in illuminating their tractors.
"People will be able to walk around and talk to our local farmers before and after the end of the run at the market."
There will also be a junior tractor run at the market, with children invited to bring their own ride-on toys decorated with fairy lights.
A limited number of ride-on toys will be available for children who do not have their own. Entry costs £5, payable in cash on the day.
The main convoy is expected to leave the livestock market at 5pm, following a formation lap at around 4.45pm. It is due to return at approximately 8.15pm.
The route will take in Oswestry town centre, Morda, West Felton, Ruyton XI Towns, Baschurch, Marton, Burlton, Cockshutt, Ellesmere, Dudleston Heath, St Martins, Gobowen and Whittington before returning to Oswestry.
A tracker will be fitted to the lead vehicle, with a link due to be published on the Oswestry Illuminated Tractor Run Facebook page between 4.30pm and 5pm on the day. Organisers say this will allow spectators to follow the convoy's progress.
Donations can be made to collectors along the route, who will carry identification badges and QR codes linking to the event's JustGiving page. Supporters are also encouraged to bring cash.
