Cesar Peixoto praises Wolves 'leader' Ladislav Krejci
The centre-back is beginning to re-establish himself as a regular starter.
Cesar Peixoto wants Ladislav Krejci to be a leader in his Wolves defence after the centre-back’s strong return to the starting XI.
Krejci has started the last three matches as Peixoto’s men have climbed to third in the Championship, scoring his second goal of the season in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Cardiff.
The Czech international captain endured an inconsistent start to the campaign following a summer where he was linked with a possible move away following relegation.
Yet he increasingly appears to have won the trust of Peixoto, his return to the team coinciding with Wolves looking stronger defensively, conceding just one goal in three matches.
“He's important and a key player for us, he has a lot of experience, a lot of qualities, a player, a leader in the defensive line,” said Peixoto.
“He talks a lot, the teammates listen to what he says, he's a clever, intelligent guy, he understands what I want from the defensive line.
“Sometimes I talk to him from the bench, he understands fast what I want.
“He's an important player for us like the others, we have a lot of games and like we saw in the last two weeks, I rotated some players because I have confidence in all the players.”
Krejci has dislodged Toti Gomes, who began the season with the captain’s armband, from the left-sided centre back position.
“Toti did an amazing job also, he didn't drop from the starting XI because he didn't play well,” said Peixoto.
“I have to take options because I have good players and Krejci is one of those kinds of players, important players inside of the pitch.”
Wolves head to Bristol City on Wednesday night aiming to win three league matches on the spin for the first time this season.
Striker Adam Armstrong is also aiming to score for the third match running.
He said: “Winning obviously brings you confidence. Everything’s been very good here and we have to keep training hard every day because we know we can still be better. Let’s go again.”
