Driver arrested after car smashed through road closure and into house near Oswestry following police pursuit
Residents described the incident as “like a warzone”
The driver of a car that dramatically smashed into a home in a quiet Shropshire village after a police pursuit was arrested.
At around 10pm on Saturday (October 31) a black Seat Leon careered through a road closure and smashed into the living room of a house on Canal View in Chirk Bank, on Shropshire’s northwest border with Wales.
The car remained inside the house, upside down, the following morning.

The driver, a man, was taken to hospital following the crash after sustaining “potentially serious injuries,” West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said.
Now North Wales Police has revealed the car had failed to stop for police and was involved in a “short pursuit” before it crashed into the property.
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “At 9.54pm on Saturday, October 31, a vehicle collided into a property on Canal View, Chirk Bank, Wrexham.
“The driver had been in short pursuit with a police vehicle after failing to stop for officers.
“Following the pursuit, the driver entered a road closure and collided with a bridge, before hitting the front of a residential property.
“The driver was arrested before being taken to hospital where they continue to receive treatment for an injury.
“No injuries were reported from inside the property.
“Enquiries into the collision are ongoing.”

Police, paramedics and firefighters also attended, with Ellesmere Fire Station sharing images of the car’s damage to the house on social media shortly after the crash.
On Monday morning (November 2), WMAS said: “We were called to reports of a car which had collided with a property on Canal View, Chirk Bank, Wrexham at 10.01pm on Saturday. October 31.
“One ambulance attended the scene. The driver, a man, sustained potentially serious injuries in the collision.
“He received treatment on scene before being conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further care.”

Following the incident on Saturday, neighbours of the Canal View property reported seeing chaotic scenes in the immediate aftermath of the collision, with the car understood to have ploughed through metal fencing blocking a bridge over the Shropshire Union Canal currently undergoing repair work.
One neighbour told how the car then hit debris on the bridge before careering onwards, down the bank for about 20 metres and straight through the front room of the house - the village’s former post office and shop which closed in 2000.
Neighbour Ella St John said the aftermath of the crash looked like a “warzone”.
She said: “I was just sitting in the living room watching the TV waiting for Tom Jones to come on and I just heard this almighty bang.
“I saw all these lights flashing, there were all these stones all over the path, I could not believe it. It was like a warzone when I came out.”
