New dementia unit already transforming residents’ daily lives
Care home opens new dementia unit.
Greenfields Care Home in Whitchurch is celebrating the early success of its newly opened Bluebell Dementia Unit. The thoughtfully designed space is already enriching the daily lives of residents living with dementia.
The unit was created to evoke familiarity, comfort, and meaningful engagement—and those aims are already being realised. Anne, one of the first residents to explore the new environment, has been enjoying a nostalgic “shopping trip” along the themed corridor stalls, an experience that sparks memories and encourages independence. Meanwhile, John has found joy and connection using the classic red phone box, a feature that has helped him reminisce and reconnect with loved ones from his past.

Staff at Greenfields say these moments reflect exactly what the new unit was designed to achieve: calm, connection, and a renewed sense of purpose.
“We’re delighted to see these enhancements bringing comfort, engagement, and genuine moments of happiness to the residents who live here,” the team shared. “The Bluebell Unit is already fulfilling its purpose beautifully, and we’re excited to see the continued positive impact it will have.”

The Bluebell Dementia Unit forms part of Coverage Care’s ongoing commitment to creating supportive, stimulating environments that honour residents’ histories while enhancing their wellbeing today.
