Man banned from all Telford Co-ops now barred from Woodside Tesco

Police have welcomed the court’s decision

A prolific shoplifter has been banned from another store in Telford after stealing meat.

Barry Gilbert, of no fixed abode, appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 28, where he was charged with theft.

The court heard how in October of this year the 42-year-old stole £31 worth of meat from Tesco Express in Woodside.

Gilbert pleaded guilty to the offence.

In June Gilbert was given a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), which meant he was not to enter any Co-op store in Telford.

The magistrate then extended the CBO to include the Tesco store.

Inspector Rich Jones said: "Persistent shoplifting has a significant impact on businesses, their staff and the wider community.

"Gilbert is a prolific offender and we continue to work closely with retailers and our partners to tackle repeat offending and hold those responsible to account.

"CBOs are an effective tool in helping us prevent further offences, and I hope this case demonstrates that we will take action against those who repeatedly target local stores."

Gibert's CBO will now run until June 2029.

A spokesman for the police said: “Anyone who sees Gilbert breaching his CBO should report it to police by calling 101 or via our website.”
