Emirates issues travel warning as torrential rain and thunderstorms to hit Dubai

Emirates has shared a fresh travel warning as severe weather is approaching the popular holiday destination Dubai.

The new warning from the airline comes alongside its longstanding alert on the ongoing regional situation in the Middle East.

The airline has already warned passengers to check their flight status, review the latest operational updates online and check their email for any notifications about changes or cancellations to their flights before making their way to the airport.

Passengers should only head to Dubai Airport if their airline has confirmed their flight is going ahead.

Now, as severe weather is due to hit Dubai today (Thursday 26 March) and tomorrow (Friday 27 March), Emirates has issued a new warning.

An amber weather warning is currently in place for Dubai, with torrential rain, thunder, lightning, strong winds and hail all expected to sweep the emirate tonight and tomorrow.

This will likely have an impact on road visibility and driving conditions on the way to DXB.

Travellers are advised to arrive at least two hours before their flight is due to depart this week.

It adds: “Please ensure your contact details are up to date by visiting http://emirates.com/managebooking, in order to receive any updates.”

Emirates urges all travellers to stay informed and plan ahead.

During the period of inclement weather, Dubai residents and visitors are urged to follow safety advice and avoid any places where rainwater may accumulate.

The National Centre for Meteorology has called on UAE residents to avoid driving unless absolutely necessary in rainy conditions.

And Dubai Police has urged motorists to maintain a safe distance, reduce speed and avoid sudden braking on busy roads.
