Newton Abbot will inspect ahead of Wednesday’s fixture, but there is more optimism at Nottingham.

The wet end to October has seen Galway become the latest meeting to be abandoned after failing an early Tuesday morning inspection.

The Ballybrit venue had been in action on both Sunday and Monday, but with heavy rain overnight, the track has been deemed in no fit state to stage the final meeting of its 2026 fixture list.

A statement from the IHRB said: “Following 12mm of rain overnight and still currently raining, Galway is now unfit for racing and the fixture scheduled for today has been cancelled.”

Galway becomes the latest racecourse to feel the force of Storms Austen and Boelo, with action in Ireland scheduled for Wexford also cancelled on Monday and over the weekend fixtures lost at both Newbury and Aintree.

Newton Abbot will inspect at 8am ahead of racing on Wednesday, however, in better news Nottingham passed a precautionary inspection on Tuesday morning ahead of the Flat fixture at Colwick Park on Wednesday that concludes with the Autism In Racing ‘Heroes Gallop’ charity race.

The fundraising contest will feature the likes of Grand National-winning Patrick Mullins and former jockey turned TV presenter Leonna Mayor.
