Gennaro Gattuso has secured a three-year contract as AC Milan’s head coach after turning the Serie A club’s fortunes around.

The 40-year-old former Italy midfielder replaced Vincenzo Montella last November, quickly stabilising an underperforming Milan side in the league and overseeing a 10-match unbeaten run earlier this year.

Gattuso, who had previously been working as the under-19 team’s head coach, will remain at the San Siro until June 2021, Milan announced on Thursday.

The Rossoneri were marooned in the bottom half of the table under Montella – now in charge of Spanish side Sevilla – but Gattuso has guided the club he represented as a player for 13 years to sixth place.
