Nathan Shi explains why new boss is an 'excellent fit' for Wolves

The Molineux chief had his say on the appointment of Cesar Peixoto.

Executive chairman Nathan Shi is confident Cesar Peixoto has the character to cope with the challenge of leading Wolves.

Peixoto has been confirmed as the club’s new head coach after agreeing a two-year deal at Molineux.

The 46-year-old Portuguese will be tasked with leading Wolves back into the Premier League at the first time of asking, after replacing the axed Rob Edwards in the dugout.

Peixoto has never previously managed outside his homeland, with his best finish last season’s sixth place in the Portuguese top flight with Gil Vicente.

But Shi reckons he will prove an “excellent fit” for Wolves as they look to recover from one of the worst seasons in their history.

He said: “Throughout our discussions with him (Peixoto), it became clear very quickly that he possesses many of the qualities we believe are important for the future of this football club.

“We wanted clear identity, strong leadership qualities and a real hunger to succeed.

“Cesar demonstrated all of those characteristics, but what impressed me most was his mentality, his work ethic and his willingness to embrace the challenge in front of him.

“He is young, energetic and ambitious, but he is also thoughtful, accountable and willing to challenge himself and those around him in pursuit of improvement.

“We believe he will be an excellent fit for the culture and vision we are building at Wolves.”
