The border rivals came into the match after both teams had won their opening two league fixtures without conceding a goal.

Presteigne captain Tom Lewis went close in the seventh minute with a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area before Rueben Smith's overhead kick was blocked six minutes later.

Daniel Montejo-Gillespie's 14th-minute effort was blocked after being picked out in space from a cross on the right flank prior to Niall Rhodes' cross-shot from being turned over the crossbar by Sam Powell.

Aiden Rhodes broke into the host's penalty area in the 25th minute, but could only find the side netting before having another shot blocked less than 60 seconds later.

The deadlock was finally broken when Charlie Ward netted his fourth goal of the season, four minutes before the interval, after breaking into the penalty area and firing a low shot past former Hereford FC goalkeeper Shay Sterry.

Presteigne looked to hit back after the interval with a teasing 48th-minute free-kick delivered into the penalty area, but Jacob Whitall was unable to apply the vital touch.

Niall Rhodes drove into the home penalty area, but saw his shot deflected behind for a corner.

Dave Thomas's 20-yard free-kick was blocked by the defensive wall in the 55th minute before Ryan Duggan was unable to apply the vital touch to a free-kick swung into the Hay St Mary's penalty area.

Jack Cook's 25-yard free-kick was tuned behind by Sterry in the 71st minute before it was the turn of Haydn Weale to go close from a free-kick delivered into the penalty area.

Sam Roberts' 78th-minute free-kick was held by Powell in the Saints goal. Bean Warry then drove into the Presteigne penalty area, but saw his shot blocked while under pressure.

Kai Blythin-Williams' deep-free kick was turned over the crossbar by Powell seven minutes later and then Iwan Evans directed an effort over the crossbar with Sterry out of position.

However, one goal was enough for the Saints to maintain their 100 per cent record before welcoming leaders Llandrindod Wells to Forest Road in their next outing.

Rhayader Town Reserves picked up their first three-point haul of the season thanks to a 2-0 success against visiting St Harmon. Stephan Sarprong and Thomas Groves bagged the goals.

Llandrindod Wells hit form on the road to secure a 4-1 win at Knighton Town Reserves as Thomas Durant and Kieran McCarley shared the goalscoring duties with two each.

Knighton struck first after six minutes through Louis Scott, but the game was level by the break after Durant netted.

McCarley fired Wells in front six minutes into the second half before Durant added his second of the night on 77 minutes. McCarley completed his brace and wrapped up the scoring in stoppage time.

Talgarth Town edged out Builth Wells Reserves 2-1 on home soil.

Rhodri Inseal gave Town the lead after 24 minutes, but Aiden Hillard levelled things up on 75 minutes.

Some late drama then saw Kyle O'Shea grab an 87th-minute winner for the home side.
