'I understand' - Cesar Peixoto in Wolves vow after Molineux boos
The boss was speaking after Saturday’s victory over Watford.
Cesar Peixoto is confident he can win Wolves supporters round after hearing their frustration in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Watford.
Adam Armstrong’s first half goal earned Peixoto’s side a much-needed victory which lifted them to fourth in the Championship.
But their performance against the struggling Hornets was unconvincing, with Peixoto’s decision to substitute Jordan James in the second half met with boos and chants of “you don’t know what you’re doing” from the South Bank.
The boss, who on Friday had spoken about the need for a united front at Molineux, said he accepted the reaction, before reiterating his belief Wolves are on the right track.
He said: “I want to work hard to do better and make our supporters happy with us. We work and play to make the supporters happy.
“I think it is important to talk about the game, the effort of the players. They way we create chances and play in the first half very well.
“The way we stay in fourth place and the effort of the goalscorer Adam.
“I understand the supporters. We are going to work hard to make them happy with our play, with our result. It is our task in the club.
“I want to get the supporters behind us again. It is important for us.
“We can play better, it is true. For now, for sure, the team is going to improve in the next weeks.”
Armstrong’s first goal since August gave Wolves a deserved lead in a first half they dominated.
Yet their inability to extend the advantage, in a match where only three of their 24 efforts on goal were on target, made for a nervier than needed finish.
“If in the first half we scored two or three goals, everything is different,” he said.
“If we continue to win, continue to score, things are going to change for sure. I understand people have freedom to do what they think they have to do.
“I am going to work with the team. We can do better. I understand that.
“But if we scored in the first half those chances we had, we are talking about a different environment in the stadium for sure.”
Explaining his decision to remove James, who impressed on just his second Championship start since joining on loan from Rennes, Peixoto said: “I thought Jordan did a great game and Marshall (Munetsi) also.
“Marshall is important for us in the last minutes, at set pieces he is more strong in that situation.
Jordan has also not played a lot of 90 minutes with us, so he was a bit tired.
“But the supporters have freedom to do what they have to do.
“I am going to do my job, which is to manage the team and try to win all the time, do what I think is best for the team. I think I do well.”
