The Wolves connections hoping to help Norway beat England
England and Norway face-off on Saturday.
Wolves have been well represented in this World Cup and club connections could now have a big say on England’s future.
The Three Lions are coming into Saturday’s quarter-final with Norway following a tremendous and hard-fought win over Mexico in the Azteca Stadium last time out.
It was a performance that earned high praise for Thomas Tuchel's 10 men, as they now aim to book a place in the semi-final against either Argentina or Switzerland.
But standing in their way is a Norway team that impressively brushed aside Brazil in the round of 16, as star striker Erling Haaland opened the scoring with a powerful header before sealing the game shortly after with a direct effort from distance.
Led by former Wolves head coach Stale Solbakken, one current and one former Wolves player are hoping to end England's World Cup dream.
David Moller Wolfe, who signed for Wolves last summer for £10million, has been a consistent starter for the Vikings.
He started the opening two group games, playing 90 minutes in one, as they beat Iraq and Senegal.
The defender then completed 90 minutes in the round of 32 win over the Ivory Coast before coming off late in the round of 16 win over Brazil.
The only game he has not featured in was Norway's final group game against France, but that was because Solbakken decided to make 10 changes to his team as they had already qualified for the knockout stages.
Wolfe, who struggled to get into Wolves' team consistently last season, has been an important member of Norway's World Cup journey so far with solid defensive performances, while offering an attacking option down the left flank.
Former Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen has not been as involved, however.
The 26-year-old had a tough first half of last season before making his move to Crystal Palace in the winter transfer window, in a deal worth up to £48million.
He has had a frustrating personal campaign in the World Cup too, as he sits behind Haaland in the pecking order.
Larsen has only featured once in the tournament so far, as he started and played 90 minutes in the defeat to France that saw so many changes.
He will be hoping to have an impact from the bench on Saturday as they take on England.
Earlier this week, Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa was eliminated from the tournament as Portugal conceded late to lose to Spain, while former Wolves midfielder Jhon Arias was also on the plane home as Colombia were beaten on penalties by Switzerland.
Raul Jimenez and Mexico were beaten by England before that, making Wolfe the only current Wolves player still in the tournament.
Ladislav Krejci (Czech Republic), Hwang Hee-chan (South Korea), Santi Bueno (Uruguay), Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (Haiti) and Sasa Kalajdzic (Austria) make up the rest of the eight current Wolves players that represented their countries at the tournament.
Kalajdzic, Sa, Jimenez and Wolfe were the only ones that made it out of the group stage, with Wolfe now hoping to go one step further.
