How Wolves' nine loanees have fared and when their Molineux contracts expire

There are big decisions coming at Molineux as Wolves prepare for life in the Championship.

The Championship re-build for Wolves began back in January and has continued in recent months - with their relegation fate acknowledged for some time.

The club’s relegation may have only been sealed a few weeks ago but there has long been an acceptance among fans that they have been heading down.

Rob Edwards was as honest as he has been after the defeat to Brighton - insisting there are players who ‘need to go’.

A number are set to leave and Wolves chiefs will need to recruit to prepare them for life in the second tier.

Elsewhere, there are a total of nine players out on loan who could well return to the club next season.

Here is a breakdown of how they have done on loan and what their contract situation is.

Nasser Djiga

The £10m signing failed to hit the mark after his arrival in January 2025.

He went off to Rangers last summer and has played 40 times for the SPL club, as they missed out on title.

Despite only playing six times for Wolves in all competitions - he still has four years to run on his deal having penned a five year contract.

Ki-Jana Hoever

The full back who originally signed from Liverpool has never hit the mark at Wolves - and that can be seen by the number of loan moves he has been on.

His latest came in January, after eight outings for Wolves in the first half of the season.

He went to Sheffield United where he again failed to hold down a starting spot. He made six starts and ten substitute appearances in all competitions.

Nigel Lonwijk

The Dutch youngster is yet to play a first team game for Wolves - and last summer completed his sixth loan move away from the club.

He has had a spell in Holland alongside a number of EFL loans - and his latest has been a success at Luton Town.

He made 34 starts in League One and also helped the Hatters to win the EFL Trophy.

However, the youngster is out of contract this summer with a decision on his future yet to be made.

Tommy Doyle

Doyle has already been back in training at the end of the season - after his loan deal at Birmingham City ended.

Doyle, signed for £5m from City following a loan move, was sent out last summer having struggled for minutes the previous year.

He had relative success in terms of game time, with 19 starts and 19 substitute appearances in the league for the Blues, as their season petered out.

He returns to Wolves with two years left on his contract.

Marshall Munetsi

He is another January 2025 signing who lasted just a year at the club, before being sent out on loan.

The powerful midfielder was fancied by Vitor Pereira but was out in the cold under Rob Edwards and was swiftly loaned out to Paris FC in January.

He has had success in Ligue 1, with four goals in 14 league appearances.

And that has led to reports in France claiming that the club want to keep him for next season.

Whether they make a move for a loan or a permanent transfer remains to be seen, but Munetsi is still contracted to Wolves until 2028.

Boubacar Traore

He looks likely to leave Wolves this season - with his last appearance for the club coming in April last year.

A loan move was made permanent in 2023 but he has made just seven starts since then.

He has spent this season on loan at Metz in France - where he has made 16 starts.

Traore has just a year left on his deal.

Tawanda Chirewa

The former Ipswich youngster made two appearances as a substitute for Wolves this season - before heading off on his latest loan to Barnsley.

In total he has made one league start and nine substitute appearances for Wolves - and his latest loan, which came after stints at Huddersfield and Derby, ended with an injury.

He returns with a year left on his deal.

Fer Lopez

The £19.5m star signing never hit the heights and went back off to Celta Vigo in January after just a handful of appearances.

They have already signalled their intentions on hoping to keep him, possibly on loan, after scoring twice in 20 outings, including a superb strike in Europe.

His future is set to be the subject of speculation for much of the summer, but he is contracted until 2030.

Sasa Kalajdzic

The injury hit Austrian has enjoyed his longest run of football since arriving at Wolves - but it has been at another club.

The £15m man was injured on his debut and then picked up another serious knee set back on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

But this season he has enjoyed a run of games. After two appearances for Wolves early on this season, he went back to Austria and signed for LASK.

He has managed to score six goals from 24 appearances, ahead of a return to Wolves where he has a year left to run on his contract.
