Cesar Peixoto explains Wolves team selection decision after making five changes at Wrexham

The Wolves boss lifted the lid on why he made five changes - explaining why Toti was brought in at full-back.

Cesar Peixoto has explained the thinking behind his five changes to the Wolves side for their draw at Wrexham.

Four of those changes came in wide areas, with Jackson Tchatchoua and Toti replacing Kieran Trippier and Hugo Bueno at full-back. Rodrigo Gomes and Mateus Mane also came into the side in place of Rafiki Said and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

Yerson Mosquera was the other player to drop to the bench, with Nasser Djiga replacing him after the Colombian had been suffering from sickness during the week.

Peixoto explained: “Yerson was sick after the game midweek and did not train with us until Friday. He was not 100 per cent.

“We rotated outside (players), because these are the players who ran more during the games. Trippier is 36 years old, and played 90 minutes in consecutive games. It is difficult to recover in just a couple of days.

“Hugo was also the same. But we also needed to rotate Hugo because of the characteristics of the game.

“We knew Wrexham were going to be direct with crosses and put balls into the box. They are very tall and direct.

“I put Toti in because Hugo needed to rest, but also because of the characteristics of the game.

“Our team is not a tall team and sometimes in these types of games we need to put these kinds of players who are stronger in the air. Because of that I played Toti.

“With the wingers, we needed to play fresh guys to try to attack the space and with energy in the game.”
