'Tough test' - The New Saints face unbeaten Barry Town in huge clash
Rhys Hughes has called on The New Saints to put on a good display against Barry this weekend.
The New Saints host Barry Town United in an attractive top-of-the-table clash tomorrow (5.15pm) - with in-form Rhys Hughes looking for the reigning champions to "put on a good display."
Second-placed Saints have won their last five Cymru Premier games after opening the season with a goalless draw at Penybont.
Barry head to Oswestry with an even more impressive record after winning all six of their league matches so far this season, which currently places them two points clear of Saints as leaders.
Hughes, who scored a fine goal as TNS kept their own good run going with a 3-2 win at Caernarfon Town on Monday, said: "I think the wins on the bounce, they give you confidence, so we know we've got to just keep taking each game, game by game.
"Barry are doing really well aren't they at the moment...that will be a tough test on Saturday, but we're in good form as well, so hopefully we can go and put on a good display and beat them at home."
Midfielder Hughes, signed by Craig Harrison from Connah's Quay Nomads in the summer, has scored in the last three TNS games as he continues to impress for his new club.
Hughes, who started his career at Everton and then played in the Football League for Tranmere Rovers, now wants to keep providing goals and assists for Saints.
"Craig's obviously put his faith in me to play and start, so I'm trying to repay that with performances and goals," he added.
"The goals are coming at the moment, but done nothing yet. Just got to keep working hard and keep trying to score as many goals and set up as many as I can as well."
Defender Danny Davies struck the winner for Saints at Caernarfon earlier this week as the Park Hall side, having been pegged back after leading 2-0, maintained their winning run.
Reflecting on the game, Hughes said: "Obviously delighted to get the win and it's always nice to score three goals as a team.
"Probably a bit disappointed to concede the two we did, but I think we showed really good character with DD's goal at the end to get back in it.
"When you're leading 2-0 and then you get pegged back to 2-2, it is hard at times, but we showed good character to come back and win 3-2."
