Shrewsbury Town are closing in on a loan deal for Burnley starlet Kian McMahon-Brown.

A deal for the versatile forward is close to being struck, with Town continuing to work on further additions ahead of the transfer window’s close.

Speaking in his press conference earlier today, Salop boss Gavin Cowan confirmed the club’s interest in the 18-year-old.

He said: “He’s an excellent player, a really good prospect. Exactly the type of player that we need to come into the building.

“It’s someone who needs a first loan, someone who needs an opportunity. And for where we’re at at the moment, the stars align somewhat.

“We’re really hopefully getting the deal over the line.”

Talks have progressed between Shrewsbury and Burnley and a deal is now close to being agreed for the teenager.

The 18-year-old recently signed his first professional contract with the Championship outfit this summer, having been with the club since under-14 level and impressed throughout the youth ranks.

The Republic of Ireland youth international put pen to paper on a two-year deal after his scholarship came to an end last season.

He could now be set for his first loan move, with a switch to Cowan’s Salop side edging closer.

McMahon-Brown can operate as an attacking midfielder or striker, with Cowan targeting a player capable of filling both roles.

The highly-rated Burnley youngster travelled to the United States with the first team for their pre-season tour this summer.

That came after McMahon-Brown was named the club’s academy player of the season, having scored 11 goals while playing above his age group for the under-21s last season.

He also scored five times for Burnley’s under-18s as they reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

McMahon-Brown was named on the bench for Burnley’s Premier League clash at Everton in March and also scored an impressive backheel during the Clarets’ Premier League Cup final victory over Sunderland.

He joined Burnley as an under-14 and went on to sign a two-year scholarship ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The campaign saw the teenager excel for both the under-18s and under-21s, recording 34 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.

McMahon-Brown has also represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, featuring at the Under-17 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and scoring in a 4-1 victory over Panama.
