Shrewsbury Town complete ninth summer signing from Leicester City

Midfielder Michael Golding has arrived on a season-long loan from Leicester City.

Shrewsbury Town have confirmed the loan signing of Michael Golding from Leicester City.

As revealed by the Shropshire Star this morning, the 20-year-old has joined on a season-long loan deal, becoming Town’s ninth signing of the summer.

Golding travelled to Shrewsbury last night and was at their Sundorne Castle training ground this morning to complete his medical and finalise the move.

Documents were signed on Friday morning, with Golding completing a season-long switch from the Foxes. He then joined Town’s training session ahead of their League Two clash with Salford City this weekend.

Golding came through AFC Wimbledon’s academy before joining Chelsea in 2018, rising through the ranks to sign his first professional contract in July 2023.

He made his Blues debut in January 2024, coming on against Preston North End in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge.

That summer, Leicester signed him for around £4million on a four-year deal. He has since made one senior appearance for the Foxes, coming off the bench in their Premier League win over Southampton last May.

The versatile midfielder now gives Gavin Cowan another option in the middle of the park as Town look to strengthen their squad.

Golding becomes Town’s ninth signing of the summer, with Shrewsbury continuing to search for further reinforcements before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night.
