Positive Shrewsbury Town injury news after duo ‘blow’

Salop boss Gavin Cowan delivered a positive injury update ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Boss Gavin Cowan has confirmed Shrewsbury Town have no further injury concerns, with Sam Stubbs and Jack Price remaining the only absentees.

Cowan admitted losing the experienced duo for a period of time is a ‘blow’ for Salop.

Stubbs is facing around three weeks on the sidelines after suffering concussion, while Price is set for a lengthy absence of up to two months with a hamstring injury.

But, as of Friday morning, Cowan said there were no further injury concerns for Shrewsbury.

“We’re all good,” he said. “Obviously, it’s a big blow to be missing those two. Two that were absolutely going to be a big part of our plans.

“Jack, obviously, will be a little bit longer. But we’re just champing at the bit for Stubbs to come back.

“It’s a big blow for us. But they’re the cards we dealt, we have a squad for a reason. So we’ve got to put the right team out tomorrow.”

The pair were missing for Town’s heavy defeat at Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup in midweek. Stubbs had taken a heavy blow to the head days earlier in Salop’s League Two defeat to Barnet.

Reflecting on that loss and Shrewsbury’s difficult start to the campaign, Cowan added: “It’s a long season, there will be lots of ups and downs.

“No doubt I’ll be sitting here quite perky at some point in the near future, but then later on in the season we’ll probably be back here again. This is the world of football.

“If I was to get overly emotional with it, which probably I did the other night, and struggling on Wednesday morning and through the day, then of course it’s going to be a tough place to be as a manager.

“You have to find some form of resilience and start to address what it is that we need to be better in order to go into Salford tomorrow and get the points.”
