Shrewsbury Town come together to remember fallen heroes
Shrewsbury Town united for tributes before their Gillingham clash.
Armed forces personnel, past and present, were honoured at Shrewsbury Town’s Remembrance Match on Saturday.
Town’s clash with Gillingham was their final home fixture before Remembrance Sunday on November 8, with the club paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Before kick-off, Town boss Gavin Cowan and Gillingham manager and former Salop boss Gareth Ainsworth laid wreaths alongside Mrs Anna Turner, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, and Wing Commander Paddy Durnin, Station Commander at RAF Shawbury.
The ceremony also featured the Last Post, followed by a one-minute silence.

Shrewsbury Town Chief Executive Liam Dooley said: “We are incredibly proud to host our annual Remembrance Match and to provide an opportunity for our supporters, players and staff to come together to honour the men and women who have served our country.
“The sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, both past and present, should never be forgotten. It is important that we continue to recognise their courage, while showing our support for serving personnel, veterans and their families.”

Supporters of both clubs also united in the 58th minute to applaud in memory of former Shrewsbury and Gillingham defender Richard Green, who died on Thursday, October 22, aged 58.
Green made more than 125 appearances for Salop before joining Swindon in 1991. He later enjoyed a seven-year spell with Gillingham, making more than 250 appearances for the Kent club.
