Police, firefighters and gas engineers called after car hits Telford building and fractures pipe

The incident fractured a gas pipe

Fire crews, gas engineers and police were called after a car hit a building in Telford and fractured a pipe.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said the incident took place on Stafford Park 7 last night, with fire control alerted to the situation at around 11.20pm.

An update explained that the crash caused a gas pipe fracture, requiring engineers from the gas utilities firm Cadent to attend.

Two fire crews were scrambled to the scene, along with West Mercia Police officers.

The fire service said the area was cordoned off but that firefighters were unable to work on the car involved due to the risk from the gas leak.

They had to leave the situation in the hands of the engineers to resolve the leak.

An update said the fire service had been called to a “road traffic collision involving one vehicle into a building which had fractured a gas pipe which was leaking”.

It added: “Crews cordoned off the area but were unable to make the vehicle electrically safe due to the gas leak.”
