“Just the start” - Isaac Lee praised by Shrewsbury Town team-mate after impressive debut

Tom Sang hailed Isaac Lee for his impressive Shrewsbury Town and EFL debut at Crawley Town.

Isaac Lee earned praise from Shrewsbury Town team-mate Tom Sang after an impressive debut.

Lee had to be patient for his first Salop appearance after joining from Welsh Premier side Flint Town United in January.

The defender was named on the bench seven times for Town following his arrival, but did not make it onto the pitch.

With League Two safety now secured, boss Gavin Cowan can begin to turn his attention to the summer rebuild and next season - providing opportunities for players, including Lee, to stake their claim.

The 22-year-old was the only change to the starting XI for Salop’s draw at Crawley Town and played his part in a solid defensive display that secured a clean sheet.

Speaking after the game, Sang said: “Very impressed. It's never easy to come into a League Two game. It feels like it's a million miles an hour when it's your first one.

“But I think he defended really well and when he relaxed and got used to it, we'd already seen glimpses of what he can do. So I think that's just the start for him.”

Lee was one of Town’s final signings of a productive mid-season window, joining for an undisclosed fee.

Salop fought off strong competition to secure his signature, with the centre-back having attracted interest from several EFL clubs during the transfer window.

The 22-year-old made a number of important interventions on his Football League debut, including several crucial tackles.

Having played alongside Lee in training, Sang said he was not surprised by the defender’s impact.

“When you're a footballer, you can see in five minutes how good a player he is,” he added.

“He's very good. So it's very impressive.”

Lee holds dual English and South Korean citizenship. He moved to England at the age of 11 for educational reasons before being scouted by Stoke City, where he joined the club’s youth setup.

The defender has also had spells with AFC Fylde, Ramsbottom United, Radcliffe Borough, Prestwich Heys, Widnes and Stafford Rangers before joining Flint Town.

He signed an 18-month contract with the Welsh side last year, and made 19 appearances for Flint this season before heading to Shropshire.
