Shropshire cricketer David Lloyd is celebrating earning his first professional contract.
The 20-year-old batsman, who plays Birmingham League cricket for Wellington, has signed a deal with Glamorgan until the end of 2013. The former Shrewsbury School pupil had a summer contract with the Welsh county last season.
But impressive second XI performances – including a career-best 182 against Gloucestershire and a 54-ball 81 against Worcestershire in a Twenty20 game – has convinced Glamorgan to give Lloyd a permanent deal.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity of being part of the Glamorgan squad," said Lloyd, who made his Glamorgan second XI debut as a 16-year-old in 2008.
"I'm delighted to have been given the chance to show what I can do."
Glamorgan head of elite performance, Matthew Mott, has high hopes for Lloyd.
"David has come up through the ranks and is an exciting young player," he said. "He's shown a good training ethic and great versatility in all formats, particularly with some big scores this summer, so we welcome him into the squad."
Oswestry's Birmingham League Twenty20 quarter-final at Wolverhampton last night was postponed due to rain.
It has been rescheduled for Monday.
