'Age just a number' - Wolves boss hails defender after debut goal

The boss was pleased with his team’s overall performance.

Cesar Peixoto believes Saheed Olagunju could have a bright future at Wolves after the defender enjoyed a dream debut in Tuesday’s 2-0 Carabao Cup win at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 19-year-old scored and helped Wolves keep a clean sheet as they eased into the third round at Hillsborough.

Olagunju, who joined the club’s academy from Chelsea two years ago, headed home Tommy Doyle’s cross on the stroke of half-time to double the visiting side’s advantage after Wednesday centre-back Sil Swinkels had earlier put through his own net.

Asked about Olagunju’s performance, Peixoto replied: "It's important. We know him and he trains with us sometimes.

"We gave an opportunity to him and he did a great game, scored a good goal.

"It is not his task because he is a centre-back!

"We look at age as just a number. I believe in the players, their quality and personality.

"Saheed has the capacity to improve and I think maybe in the future he can be in the first-team."

Peixoto made eight changes to the team which had started Saturday’s win at Preston and watched as Wolves secured a comfortable win, albeit against League One hosts who were also much-changed from their strongest XI.

The win continued Wolves’ unbeaten start to the season and Peixoto said: "I think we started the game very well. We scored and in the first half could have scored more.

"In the second half we could maybe have done more with the ball but the players were maybe a little tired.

"We stayed organised and did not concede any goals. The clean sheet is important, the win away is important. I am happy with the players."

"We are going to try and win all the games. I think it is important to put minutes in the legs of the players."
