Woodland footpath restored by volunteers in Church Stretton

The footpath was identified as needing work earlier this year

A Shropshire town council is celebrating the restoration of a woodland footpath.

A footpath in Shropshire’s Rectory Wood had a much-needed makeover thanks to volunteers from Church Stretton Town Council and its outdoor maintenance operatives.

The high-level path which overlooks Yew Tree Pool was determined to be “a significant risk” earlier this year.

Due to this identification, a structural survey was carried out and it was decided that work would be needed to make the path “safe and accessible for the future”.

Since June, town council volunteers and its outdoor maintenance operatives have been hard at work to once again make the path safe.

New handrails have now been installed to keep walkers protected from the drop below the path.

A Church Stretton Town Council spokesperson said: “A huge thank you to everyone who gave their time, energy and expertise to help restore this important local footpath.

“We are also incredibly grateful to our outdoor maintenance operatives for coordinating and supervising the work throughout.

“Projects like this are a fantastic example of what can be achieved when our community comes together.”
