Telford bin collections returning to normal
Rubbish and recycling collections will be back to normal in Telford this week, council bosses have said.
Snow and icy side roads meant that some rubbish and recycling collections were unable to be made in Telford & Wrekin in the past week, as collection vehicles and crews were unable to reach some homes. Contractor, TWS, has managed to catch up with its grey rubbish bin collections.
But some recycling collections, such as cardboard, glass, paper, plastics and tins, were not possible last week.
Dave Hanley, environment and open space manager, said: "We have worked very hard to ensure that grey bins that we couldn't collect because of the snow were collected as soon as possible and I am glad to say we have now done this.
"However it simply hasn't been possible to collect recycling from some homes and we have little choice but to ask any resident affected to take this in and put out again at their next collection date.
"We thank people for their understanding and patience and hope that they will appreciate these have been exceptionally difficult conditions for the crews to cope with and that for most residents collections continued as normal."
Mr Hanley said if recycling collections have not been made, residents should take their recycling boxes and green garden waste bins back off the street so that they don't cause any obstruction on the pavements.
"The recycling can then be put out again on the next scheduled recycling collection day and any extra recycling can be presented as long as it is separated and put into bags."
Green bin collections, which were suspended following snowfall to allow crews to concentrate on collecting grey bins, resumed as normal today.
The borough's community recycling centres at Granville, Ketley and Halesfield, which were also affected by the heavy snow, are all open as usual again this week.
