Young aviation enthusiasts invited to join RAF Museum Midlands Summer STEM Camp

Places are limited and early booking is recommended

Young people with a passion for technology, engineering and aviation are being invited to take part in a week-long Summer Camp at the RAF Museum Midlands.

The five-day programme, aimed at children aged 11 to 13, will run in partnership with Tablet Academy and is designed to inspire the next generation through hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities in the unique surroundings of the museum.

With just 20 places available each week, the camp will take place at RAF Cosford from July 27 to 31 and August 3 to 7, running daily from 9.45am until 4pm.

Throughout the week, participants will tackle a range of interactive challenges covering robotics, coding, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, engineering and aviation.

The programme begins with LEGO engineering and aeronautics, where children will build robotic vehicles capable of pulling an aircraft using LEGO Spike Prime technology and explore real aircraft engineering systems during a museum tour.

Tuesday focuses on digital creativity, with youngsters experimenting with AI-powered design tools, Adobe Express and immersive virtual reality experiences using CoSpaces.

Midweek activities include Minecraft's Elytra Flight Challenge alongside robotics and design thinking projects using Sphero technology.

On Thursday, participants will discover the world of wartime codebreaking while learning cybersecurity fundamentals before training their own artificial intelligence models using Teachable Machines.

The camp concludes with an all-day engineering challenge, giving teams the chance to put everything they have learned into practice by designing and building innovative projects to showcase and take home.

Organisers say the camp offers an engaging way for young people to develop practical STEM skills, build confidence and improve teamwork while exploring the fascinating worlds of aviation and technology.

The cost is £140 per child, which includes all workshop materials, activities and a certificate of achievement. Participants are asked to bring their own food and drinks each day.

Places are limited and early booking is recommended. The camp is suitable for children aged 11 to 13.
