Alterations to barn conversion proposal - plus latest Shropshire Council planning round-up
"The historic layout of the farmstead will be retained, with more modern and unsightly attached agricultural buildings demolished”
A developer wants to make minor alterations for plans to convert a range of farm buildings into seven homes.
Planning permission, plus listed building consent, was approved for the changes at Woodstyle Farm in Grinsall, near Shrewsbury, in June 2023.
Now Stag Bespoke Developments Ltd is proposing to make minor alterations affecting the internal and external layout.
Representing the applicant, chartered town planner David Parker said the remaining farm buildings are reaching the end of their life for modern agricultural purposes and are beginning to fall into disrepair.
"The design of the conversion scheme makes use of existing and previous window and door openings, and only introduces new openings where necessary," said Mr Parker.
"The historic layout of the farmstead will be retained, with more modern and unsightly attached agricultural buildings demolished.
"Each unit has sufficient private amenity space, provided by garden areas on the perimeter of the barns or in the courtyard, parts of which will also be used for parking. Otherwise, the courtyard will be restored to its original open form, including the removal of the large silos.”
The original heritage impact statement, which takes into account the impact on the adjoining listed farmhouse, is still valid, Mr Parker said.
The agent added that the existing highway access to the property from the A49 will be improved to serve the development. This, he said, will provide adequate visibility and has been used in the past for significant levels of farm traffic. There will be a range of two-, three- and four-bedroom properties, aiming to meet the range of local housing needs.
