Over the decades, the site was used for industrial and mechanical purposes, including operations by mechanical and constructional engineers Farmer Brothers and later as a vehicle bodywork and paint shop for an Austin-Rover dealership.

Historical research undertaken during the planning process identified surviving buildings on the site dating from before the 1880s, with evidence suggesting parts of the complex may be even older.

But around 20 years ago the site was largely abandoned, becoming overgrown and neglected.

Now Shingler Homes is nearing completion of the regeneration of Victoria Works.

The development has been carefully restored and converted the historic stone buildings into “sympathetic” new homes, creating what the developers say is a “unique residential scheme that celebrates the site's heritage rather than replacing it”.

Jeremy Shingler, Director of Shingler Homes, said: "Victoria Works has provided Shingler Homes with the opportunity of restoring an amazing site in the centre of Shifnal.

“Rather than allowing an important historic site to continue to deteriorate, we have invested in preserving its character whilst creating high-quality homes that people will enjoy living in for many years to come. The challenge was balancing heritage and modern living, ensuring the buildings retained their identity whilst meeting the expectations of today's homeowners."

He added that the project transformed a long-neglected brownfield site into an attractive residential development while retaining key elements of the original stone structures.

Wherever possible, original materials have been conserved and incorporated into the finished scheme, helping maintain a strong connection to the site's industrial past.

Shingler Homes said it believes Victoria Works will stand as an example of how heritage-led regeneration can deliver both housing and community benefits, preserve local identity while supporting the future growth of market towns such as Shifnal.

The development attracted significant interest from homebuyers seeking something different from a conventional new-build property, over half of the development was sold off plan with only four properties remaining.
