Plans to reopen vacant Telford pub after Black Country company takeover
A West Midlands-based company is hoping to undertake a range of works on a vacant pub near Telford in a bid to reopen.
The Plough at Allscott, west of Telford, went up for auction in June last year just eight months after the vacant pub had been refitted and reopened to the public.
A few weeks before the property had gone up for sale, the then-owners warned they would have to close if business did not pick up.
In September, the Stourbridge-based Furious Pub Company - which runs The Red Lion and The Swan in Amblecote - announced it had purchased The Plough.
Now, plans to extend the pub off the B4394 have been revealed, which the new owners hope will turn around its fortunes.
A planning application, submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council on behalf of Furious Pub Co., reads: "The property in its current condition, with its limited floor space and consequently constrained service offering, has in recent years struggled as a viable concern.

"For this reason, the pub has been closed for some time, and at the time of writing remains so. As a consequence, the site was recently sold on by its previous owners and has been acquired by new owners.
"[They] have acquired the property with a view to returning it to use as a public house, with improved facilities for the use of the local community, and also for visitors from further afield.
"In order that property may be returned to a viable use and sustained, going forward, as a valuable community asset, the applicants wish to make various improvements to the building to make it more fit for purpose."
Plans include the demolition of the existing modern conservatory, which would be replaced with a single-storey extension to provide additional seating space.
Another single-storey extension would aim to "enlarge and improve existing customer toilet facilities", while an external canopy would create a covered seating area in the pub’s beer garden.
The application concludes: "This development proposal represents an opportunity to renew and reinvigorate an existing community facility, in a previously rural area which is shortly to experience an influx of hundreds of new households, who will, in the future, require their own local social infrastructure."
