Kington youngsters have been challenged to design posters encouraging people to care for the town

Kington youngsters have been challenged to design posters encouraging people to care for the town.

The town mayor invited children at the primary school to come up with posters either encouraging people not to drop litter, to clean up after their dogs or just to look after the town.

Kington Mayor Councillor Philip Sell went to an assembly at the school and was asked to speak on the theme of respect.

He said: “I talked about showing respect to each other, but also that we should show respect for places, our countryside and the town in which we live.

“This led to me inviting them to design posters and I hope we will end up with some useful posters to display around the town.”

Councillor Sell said he had also attended the opening ceremony of the new SEND facilities at the school.

In his monthly report Councillor Sell said he had also spoken to the primary school’s council about how the town council works and heard their ideas and plans.

He has also held numerous meetings with various groups about the town’s Armed Forces Day events which is due to take place on Saturday, June 27 including meeting Kington Veterans Association, and completing a funding application.

Councillor Sell said he had also attended the annual general meeting of the town’s community shop, the Mayor’s meeting in Hereford and the declaration of the new High Sheriff at Hereford Cathedral and he said he has invited the High Sheriff to the town and to attend Armed Forces Day.

He and fellow councillors welcomed Michael Greenfield, the town council’s new clerk.

The Mayor said he would also be attending the annual Mayor Making ceremony for the 645th Mayor of Hereford, the Marches Makers Festival and the opening of the May Fair in the grounds of Hereford Cathedral before the end of his Mayoral year.
