Former England football captain John Terry was this afternoon found guilty by the Football Association of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

The FA delivered its verdict shortly before 3pm after a hearing lasting most of this week. The Chelsea captain was banned for four matches and fined £220,000 for using abusive and insulting words towards Ferdinand.

Terry had arrived for the fourth day of his hearing before an FA independent regulatory commission just before 9am and left just before noon.

Neither he nor his lawyer George Carter-Stephenson QC made any comment.
