Snow has fallen across parts of Shropshire and Mid Wales, with motorists urged to take care on the roads during rush hour.

Emergency services are issuing advice on careful driving due to snow and ice making for more dangerous driving conditions.

A major Shropshire road was closed after a fuel tanker jackknifed in snowy conditions in the early hours. The lorry was on the A41 just south of Tilstock Roundabout, Whitchurch, when it crashed, at around 2.20am on Wednesday.

It comes after forecasters issued a string of weather alerts for England with snowfall expected into this morning.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been extended by the Met Office. It covers the western half of Shropshire into tomorrow.

Shropshire Council said its teams of gritters were out across the county at 4am, and again at 7am treating priority routes in the north. From 10am they were out treating secondary routes, such as busy rural link roads, and are due out again at 4pm to deal with primary routes.
