Drivers warned of severe weekend disruption as 81m convoy travels through Midlands
The convoy is set to impact a number of key Midlands road networks
A giant 81-metre abnormal load weighing more than 500 tonnes is expected to cause major disruption across key Midlands motorways this weekend, motorists have been warned.
National Highways West Midlands said the massive vehicle - measuring 6.5 metres wide and weighing 514 tonnes - will travel from Rugby to Goole at speeds of just 8mph, affecting traffic on the M6, M42, A42 and M1.
Drivers are being urged to plan ahead, allow extra journey time or avoid the route altogether during the operation.

The load is so wide that it will completely occupy the carriageway on parts of the A42, meaning other vehicles will be unable to pass while it moves through the area.
In a statement posted on social media, National Highways West Midlands warned that significant delays are expected throughout the weekend as the convoy makes its way north-east under escort.
Abnormal loads of this size are typically used to transport large industrial equipment such as transformers, turbines or heavy engineering components, and require extensive planning and coordination with police and highways teams.
Traffic management measures are expected to be in place along affected sections of the route, with rolling road closures and temporary restrictions likely at various points.
Motorists are advised to check traffic updates before travelling and consider alternative routes where possible.
