Shrewsbury Crown Court was told Jamil, who has worked at the Little Dessert Shop, was found at about 6.30pm on December 18, 2024 after police received a 999 call.
Jamil was rushed to hospital, and later told officers that he did not know who had shot him and that it must have been “a case of mistaken identity”.
However, police found 112 grams of heroin in his car, worth about £4,000 in street deals.
They also found a phone with messages indicative of drug dealing, including one arranging to meet someone on the day he was shot, requesting a “password”.
After further investigation, police raided Jamil’s flat in Windmill Lane, Castlecroft, Wolverhampton, on February 19 last year. His two young daughters were there at the time.
