Historic coins found near Bridgnorth to be sold off

A historic collection of ancient coins discovered near Bridgnorth by a metal detectorist is to be sold at auction in the town.
The coins – Roman bronze coins and silver coins dating from the reigns of Henry VIII, Charles II and Queen Anne – will go under the hammer at Perry & Phillips sales room in Low Town early next month.
Mr Ridgway said: "This is an excellent collection of coins, all in good condition.
"They were found some years ago by a local metal detectorist who was investigating fields around Bridgnorth."
The coins will be sold as separate lots at the sale of antiques and collectables at their Mill Street auction house on October 5.
Viewing will take place during the weekend and on September 28 prior to the auction.
Also being sold at the auction is a rare Vernis Martin laquered desk, made in France employing the Ormolu gold-plating technique, and dating back to the 19th century.
Mr Ridgway said it was one of the finest pieces of furniture they had had in the sales room for some time and he was expecting interest from collectors across the region.
