Volunteers join forces to restore overgrown Ludlow garden
Ludlow Rotary Club members and local residents are working together to improve St John’s Garden and reveal more of the town’s historic wall
A community project to breathe new life into an overgrown garden in Ludlow has got under way.

Members of Ludlow Rotary Club joined forces with local residents for the first working party at St John’s Garden on Thursday, October 22.
The green space lies to the south of the town centre, alongside a stretch of Ludlow’s historic town wall, but has become overgrown and neglected in recent years.
The first phase of the project will focus on tidying paths, cutting back shrubs and clearing vegetation to expose more of the ancient wall.
Plans for next year include replanting the garden’s island beds with flowering shrubs and installing planters featuring evergreen plants, perennials and seasonal bedding.

Barry Forrester, of Ludlow Rotary Club, said members were pleased to have the support of Ludlow Town Council, which has agreed to repair existing hard landscaping and a low wall at the front of the garden.
The council will also provide funding for the planters and new shrubs.
The next working party is scheduled for 10am on Thursday, October 29, with local people invited to join the effort to improve the public space.
