Veterans and community come together for first Ditherington breakfast
‘The morning was filled with laughter, stories and plenty of friendly conversation’
An incredible morning of food, friendship and community spirit marked the launch of the very first Veterans Community Breakfast, organised by Old Comrades Li CIC in partnership with Shropshire European Organisation and Brighter Days (Shropshire) CIC.

Held at Bocian Café at Ditherington Community Centre, the inaugural breakfast brought together veterans, volunteers, friends and members of the local community for a morning of good food, conversation and companionship.
The event was a huge success, with veterans coming together to share stories, enjoy breakfast and reconnect with old friends, while also making new ones.
A huge thank you goes to every veteran who attended. Your service and the stories you shared made the morning truly special.
The organisers also expressed their thanks to the fantastic team of volunteers and a very young cadet who took orders, served food and kept the tea and coffee flowing throughout the morning. All their hard work helped create the warm and welcoming atmosphere that made the event such a success.
A special thank you goes to the “Slop Jockeys” Cookery School, that consists of Veteran Chefs and Their young apprentices, who cooked up an incredible breakfast for everyone and, thankfully, made sure nobody was limited to just one sausage!

The morning was filled with laughter, stories and plenty of friendly conversation. The strong sense of community around the tables demonstrated exactly why the Veterans Community Breakfast was created: to provide a welcoming space where veterans and the wider community can meet, socialise and enjoy each other’s company.
Charlie Edwards, Old Comrades LI, said: “What an incredible morning! Our very first Veterans Community Breakfast was an absolute joy to be part of, and we couldn't be prouder of how it came together. The laughter, the stories and the sense of community around those tables said it all. This is exactly why we wanted to start this.”
Following the success of the first event, the organisers are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back for the next breakfast.
