The competition, organised by housebuilder David Wilson Homes, challenged children to collect natural materials such as rocks, leaves, grass and twigs before using them to design a miniature garden that would encourage wildlife.

Jonah's creation was chosen as the winning entry, earning him a £50 Amazon gift card in recognition of his design.

Ann Carter, learning support assistant at Woodfield Infant School, said: "The children loved taking part in the competition and were extremely enthusiastic and had lots of ideas.

"They were brilliant at using their imagination to create their vision of their very own garden. They used a variety of resources, including real plants, to create their beautiful gardens."

David Wilson Homes has organised similar ecology-themed competitions at schools across the country to encourage children to explore nature through creative activities.

Helen Lewis, managing director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: "We were so pleased when we saw all the entries for the competition. The Woodfield Infant School students rose to the occasion brilliantly.

"While Jonah's entry was a worthy winner, it was difficult to pick just one submission and we want to congratulate every student who created a fantastic design."

Woodfield Infant School is in Shrewsbury, close to the Rose Place housing development.
