Oswestry group brings fresh energy to traditional Morris dancing
Oswestry Dark Morris is inviting dancers and musicians to join its mixed-gender group, with no previous experience needed
A Morris dancing side bringing fresh energy to traditional Border folk dancing is looking to expand its membership in Oswestry.

Featuring rhythmic stick-clashing, colourful tatter jackets, energetic movements and acoustic music, Oswestry Dark Morris brings together people of different ages and backgrounds.
Women make up 65 per cent of the group's membership, reflecting its inclusive approach to a centuries-old tradition.
Founder Mike Lade said the group offered a way for people to enjoy exercise, music and friendship while celebrating local traditions.
He said: “We’re a mixed-gender group and Morris brings people together through music, movement and friendship.
“It’s good exercise, helps develop coordination and supports mental wellbeing – and above all, it’s great fun, with plenty of laughter.”
The group is part of a wider revival of interest in traditional dance, with modern Morris sides providing opportunities for people to learn new skills and meet others in their community.
Oswestry Dark Morris welcomes dancers aged 16 and over, with training provided and no previous experience required.
Musicians who play an instrument are also encouraged to get involved.
