The UK’s leading end-of-life charity is calling on volunteers to give up a few hours of their time to collect donations at Morrisons stores in Shrewsbury, Wellington, Telford and Market Drayton from July 30 to August 2.

Funds raised will help Marie Curie Nurses and healthcare professionals continue providing expert care for people with any illness they are likely to die from, as well as supporting their families.

The charity says almost one in three people do not receive the end-of-life care and support they need. A typical two-hour collection shift raises around £85 – enough to fund almost four hours of expert nursing care or five calls to Marie Curie’s free Support Line.

The Support Line and webchat provide practical and emotional support for people living with a terminal illness and those close to them, including advice on symptom management, day-to-day care, financial concerns and bereavement support.

Sarah Hampton, Marie Curie Community Fundraiser for Shropshire, said: “We believe everyone deserves expert end-of-life care and support. Getting involved in the Paint It Yellow fundraiser and collecting at your local Morrisons is a brilliant and fun way to give back to our local community here in Shropshire whilst also helping Marie Curie provide a vital service to those in the final chapter of their lives.

“Volunteering is super simple, and our team will be on hand to support you throughout to make sure you have everything you need and ensure you have the best experience possible.”

As well as donation collections, Morrisons stores will be hosting a range of fundraising activities, including golden raffles, tombolas, yellow in-store trails and colleague bike challenges.

Morrisons colleagues will also take part in a Paint It Yellow fundraising relay throughout August, passing a baton between stores in creative ways to raise money for Marie Curie.

David Scott, Corporate Affairs Director at Morrisons, said: “We’re proud to be working with our national charity partner, Marie Curie, to bring customers our Paint It Yellow fundraiser again this year.

“Last summer, every Morrisons Community Champion, member of staff and customer made an incredible effort, raising over £1 million for end-of-life care in just one month.”
