Local Lions donation gives Acorn Singers a boost
The donation highlights how community groups can work together to support older people
An Age UK singing group in Telford has received a helping hand from a local community organisation, with a donation of 25 music stands set to make its weekly sessions easier and more enjoyable.

Members of the Acorn Singers, one of the wellbeing groups organised by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, meet every Wednesday afternoon in Hadley.
The new music stands were donated by Ironbridge & Severn Gorge Lions Club, whose treasurer Graham Powell recently visited the group to see the difference the gift will make.
The Acorn Singers is a welcoming group for older people who enjoy singing, regardless of their previous experience or ability.
As well as providing an opportunity to enjoy music, the sessions help bring people together, reduce loneliness and support mental wellbeing.
Claire Fishlock, senior service development officer at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said the stands would allow members to use two song books at the same time and make sessions more accessible for people with mobility issues or those living with dementia.
She added that support from local organisations and businesses "can be just as valuable as a financial contribution", allowing the charity to make practical improvements that have an immediate impact.
The donation highlights how community groups can work together to support older people and help them remain active, connected and involved.
