The Celebrity Traitors host picked up the prize for the hit BBC reality show at the Baftas.

Claudia Winkleman has said social media is “so important” in bringing together the millions of fans of The Traitors and its celebrity spin-off version.

The Celebrity Traitors won the best reality category at the Bafta Television Awards on Sunday night, with host Winkleman picking up the prize for the hit BBC reality show.

Speaking during the winner’s press conference, Winkleman said it is her “favourite thing” to know that people are watching the show together.

Asked about the importance of social media in the show’s success, Winkleman, 54, said: “I think it’s so important because, not just social media, but the people who watch – and they seemingly watch together as families – is my favourite thing of all.

“It feels like it’s a real communal moment. We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who gets involved.”

Winkleman was flanked in the winner’s room by Celebrity Traitors star, comedian Nick Mohammed, who spoke about the viral moment from the series involving Thursday Murder Club star Celia Imrie screaming into a well.

He said: “I think the fact that everyone was so relaxed and so immersed in the game that something like that happened made us think that it’s going to be TV gold.”

Winkleman was asked about her favourite moment on the show, and said: “Embarrassingly, I’m going to say all of it.”

The former Strictly Come Dancing host added: “I love every single aspect, because this is just a little bit of a team.

“Everybody who works on the show is obsessed by it. We love it so much. We’re so lucky to be part of this extraordinary game.

“I love watching how the traitors behave and how the faithful behave, and I want both sides to win equally – so it’s confusing.

“We love it all.”

Picking up the award during the ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Winkleman said: “Bafta, thank you so, so much for this. This is unbelievable.

“Thank you to every single person who works on the show. It is such an honour to be part of this extraordinary show.

“This is absolutely for our extraordinary cast who played with dignity, gusto and their entire hearts and we love them.”

The awards show, hosted by Taskmaster star Greg Davies, is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
