Important role of gardens recognised as National Garden Scheme marks 30 years of partnership with Marie Curie

The National Garden Scheme has recently celebrated 30 years of partnership with the UK’s leading end of life charity, Marie Curie.

Since the partnership began, the scheme has raised more than £12 million for Marie Curie, helping to provide expert care and support to people living with a terminal illness and their families.

A recent poll, by Marie Curie, revealed the important role of gardens and outdoor spaces when coping with difficult life moments, with 7 in 10 (70%) people who have been bereaved stating that spending time in nature helps them to process their grief and remember someone that has died.

Powys has a few gardens opening in the autumn but open until Sunday 13 September, from 11am until 5pm, is The Hymns, Walton near Kinnerton, Presteigne LD8 2RA.

The garden openings are timed to co-inside with special local events to enrich the sense of 'place'. Set just north of the Four Stones, pre-historic standing stones, there are mown walk ways to carefully placed garden sculptures and benches, with views to the hills and the ancient village of Old Radnor, where Alfred Watkins evolved his thoughts of Ley-lines.

The Hymns has inspired several artists, the work of whom can be seen in the barn as part of Herefordshire Art Week exhibition, a contribution of proceeds from purchases goes to the National Garden Scheme.
