The Owls struggled to break down Stockport in a goalless stalemate.

Henrik Pedersen expressed the need for Sheffield Wednesday to create more chances after they were held to a goalless draw by Stockport.

Ryan Glover hit the woodwork for the Hatters, with Harry Wood and Jack Diamond also having good opportunities.

“First, I think we play against a very strong Stockport team,” Pedersen said. “I think it’s for sure the best team we have played against this season.

“We knew they would be a strong offensive team. They are strong in possession, but it’s also a team who create a lot of chances and have scored a lot of goals.

“I think the first half we were too passive. We changed it and second half we were much more dominant in the pressing and had many more good pressing situations, many more times where we won the ball.

“We have to take the next step and be stronger.

“I think offensively in the first half we struggled to get enough speed in the ball, but also patience enough to move them around and then speed up the game where we end up playing too many long balls, so we end up having a second ball game.

“Second half was better. We were much more brave to play and we had many more situations where we came high up on the pitch. But of course we want to create more and this is what we are working on.”

Stockport boss Jim McNulty praised the “courage and personality” shown by his players, but felt they could have had more belief.

McNulty said: “It’s a good point, and a clean sheet is welcome for sure. I believe most people in the stadium believe we should have won today. I’d say the neutral would think so.

“But I’m really proud of the performance, I’m really proud of the effort. And the performance had courage and personality up until a point where I’ll share with you what I said to the team essentially, that I believe we’re capable of more. I believe we really are.

“To leave here overly happy with only a point after a lot of control in the game and some real periods of domination as well, I think we’re capable of more.

“I think the final third today – and it isn’t just forward players, it’s all of our players really – I thought we could have more belief.

“I think we’re good enough. We don’t need to come here with any sort of impostor syndrome that we’re not capable of winning.

“I think we can beat anybody anywhere and today I felt the only difference in that was a slight element of belief.”
